Our History
Report
The Open Door Ministries beginning was September of 1996.
After two decades of ministry, the miracle continues as we broaden our service to this community.
The Open Door is indebted to the vision of two ladies, Ophelia Hart, and the late, Connie White, who working alongside the leadership of Long's Chapel UMC, had the vision to believe a ministry like this could prosper in Haywood County.
Their love and loyalty to this ministry is well documented on the written page as well as the hearts of those who remember their selfless contribution.

Programs
Report
Reflecting our core belief that everyone needs identity and a sense of belonging, we offer a "Open Door Team Concept."
Those clients who reap the benefit of the services we provide are encouraged to give back by way of volunteer service to the ministry.
Joining a fleet of community volunteers, our clients make up a significant part of the day to day work force at The Open Door.
They oversee some of our programs, prepare meals, serve the food, work in our pantry, wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, clean rest rooms, work in the Second Blessing Thrift Shop, keep our property manicured and even extend their efforts into the community with trash pickup.

At The Open Door, the soup kitchen is at the center of our ministry.

The soup kitchen provides that nourishment.
Every day of every year, full-course, nutritious meals are served to hungry men, women and children.
While monetary donations are gratefully accepted, there is no charge for the meals.
There is no eligibility criteria, and meals are served in a safe, clean and attractive setting.
